7 Tips for a Safe, Healthy Cookout

Household Tips
Pour a packet of lemonade Kool-Aid (the only flavor that works) into the detergent cup and run the dishwasher while empty. The citric acid in the mix wipes out stains! And it smells lemon fresh!

Eliminate ear mites. All it takes is a few drops of Wesson Corn Oil in your cat's ear... massage it in, then clean with a cotton ball. Repeat daily for 3 days. The oil soothes the cat's skin, smothers the mites, and accelerates healing.

Easy eyeglass protection... to prevent the screws in eyeglasses from loosening, apply a small drop of Maybelline Crystal Clear Nail Polish to the threads of the screws before tightening them.

Smart splinter remover: Just pour a drop of Elmer's Glue-All over the splinter, let dry, and peel the dried glue off the skin. The splinter sticks to the dried glue.

Before you head to the drugstore for a high-priced inhaler filled with mysterious chemicals, try chewing on a couple of curiously strong Altoids peppermints. They'll clear up your stuffed nose.

Drinking two glasses of Gatorade can relieve headache pain almost immediately-without the unpleasant side effects caused by traditional pain relievers?

Rainy day cure for dog odor: Next time your dog comes in from the rain, simply wipe down the animal with Bounce or any dryer sheet, instantly making your dog smell springtime fresh.

Kills fleas instantly... Dawn Dishwashing Liquid does the trick. Add a few drops to your dog's bath and shampoo the animal thoroughly. Rinse well to avoid skin irritations. Good-bye fleas.

Did you know that Colgate Toothpaste makes an excellent salve for burns?

Use leftover eggshells to shine your glassware. Simply drop some crushed shells in vase, add warm water and a drop of dishwashing liquid, and give it a good swirl

A simple spruce up for the microwave: place a bowl of water mixed with lemon juice inside and run the machine on high for one minute, wipe out to clean.

Use Your Rice Cooker to Steam Towels.

Slather your hands with lotion, then wrap them in the steamed towels until cool.

Here are the five most common early warning signs of a heart attack:
-- Chest pain.
-- Pain or discomfort in the neck and jaw.
-- Pain or discomfort in the arm, shoulder or back.
-- Sudden feeling of profound fatigue.
-- Sudden shortness of breath.

enough.  So now a new baby movement monitoring technology is being brought to North America by Pneo.  The Snuza Halo is a small, light, portable device that provides a unique new way to effectively monitor a sleeping infant.

The American Way - READ THIS INCREDIBLE SPEECH!
Alan Korwin gave a speech to a large group on Patriot’s Day, commemorating the shot heard ‘round the world. Several thousand people turned out on a nice sunny day and to my surprise, constantly interrupted with applause. Seems he touched a nerve with this uplifting piece about what makes America great.

"The American Way is hard work. It is keeping the benefits of your hard work. It  is ownership of private property, and the sanctity of a contract between people. It is the idea that you and you alone own the fruits of your labors. It is the idea—of paramount importance—of self ownership. You and you alone own and are responsible for you. It’s a tautology. The king doesn’t own you. The state doesn’t own you. You own you. This is not a right you demand, or get from the state, or earn. It is a fundamental right of the fact that you exist. It is a right that comes from your Creator, by nature. It is the natural order of things. And it is honored here like nowhere else—that’s why we’ve achieved so much."      Story Continues

NRA Appeals Seventh Circuit Ruling to the U.S. Supreme Court

Fairfax, Va. - Today, the National Rifle Association filed a petition for certiorari to the U.S. Supreme Court in the case of NRA v. Chicago. The NRA strongly disagrees with yesterday's decision issued by a three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit, holding that the Second Amendment does not apply to state and local governments.

"The Seventh Circuit got it wrong. As the Supreme Court said in last year's landmark Heller decision, the Second Amendment is an individual right that 'belongs to all Americans'. Therefore, we are taking our case to the highest court in the land," said Chris W. Cox, NRA chief lobbyist. "The Seventh Circuit claimed it was bound by precedent from previous decisions. However, it should have followed the lead of the recent Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals decision in Nordyke v. Alameda County, which found that those cases don't prevent the Second Amendment from applying to the states through the due process clause of the Fourteenth Amendment."

This Seventh Circuit opinion upholds current bans on the possession of handguns in Chicago and Oak Park, Illinois.

"It is wrong that the residents of Chicago and Oak Park continue to have their Second Amendment rights denied," Cox concluded. "It's time for the fundamental right of self-defense to be respected by every jurisdiction throughout our country."

Established in 1871, the National Rifle Association is America's oldest civil rights and sportsmen's group. Four million members strong, NRA continues its mission to uphold Second Amendment rights and to advocate enforcement of existing laws against violent offenders to reduce crime. The Association remains the nation's leader in firearm education and training for law-abiding gun owners, law enforcement and the military. Link

JOY SLAGOWSKI  DAILY NEWS-SUN

Surprise’s new food bank is introducing itself to the community with an open house and food drive.
"We want the community to know this is a place for them to come if they need help or to volunteer," said Director Jesse Ramirez. "And the main thing is for the city of Surprise to come out and fill our warehouse with donated food."
"It’s neighbors helping neighbors," Ramirez said.
Valley View Community Food Bank, which opened its Surprise location (11081 N. Milgard Way, just southwest of Dysart and Varney roads) in March, is hosting the event from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.

Network of Business Women AZ's Wiki
The Network of Business Women is a new national woman’s networking group that is branching out and currently in 23 states. The Phoenix Group Networking Mixer was held April 18th at Sam’s Café in the Arizona Center at 11am.

Their online component, Network of Business Women AZ's Wiki, allows members to stay connected long after the meeting was over. $25 dinning certificates were given away to three people who registered. Email networkofbusinesswomenaz@gmail.com

Several women made instant contacts that resulted in sales before the meeting was over!

The next meeting LeeAnn Sharpe of Crazy Cowgirl (www.acrazycowgirl.com) spoke about writing a press release for your business.

"We are looking for guest speakers for future meetings," local leader Madonna Kash says. "We would like to have 3 speakers, 10 minutes apiece to talk during lunch."  ( http://networkofbusinesswomenaz.wetpaint.com/  )

Famous Posse Races After Killer of Dodge City Singer

The true story of the trek the most intrepid posse of the Old West

Famous Posse Races After Killer of Dodge City Singer
The true story of the trek the most intrepid posse of the Old West ventured on in pursuit of a reckless gunslinger is the subject of a new book entitled Thunder Over the Prairie. Thunder Over the Prairie rides into bookstores in June 2009.

The year was 1878. Future legends of the Old West—lawmen Charlie Bassett, Bat Masterson, Wyatt Earp, and Bill Tilghman—patrolled the unruly streets of Dodge City, Kansas, then known as “the wickedest little city in America.” When a cattle baron fled town after allegedly shooting the popular dancehall girl Dora Hand, these four men—all sharpshooters who knew the surrounding harsh, desert-like terrain—hunted him down, it was said, like “thunder over the prairie.” The posse’s legendary ride across the desolate landscape to seek justice influenced the men’s friendship, careers, and feelings about the justice system. This account of that event, written by Howard Kazanjian and Chris Enss, is a fast-paced, unforgettable glimpse into the Old West.
