Chef Dillon's Corner Recipes!Grilled Stuffed Peaches

7 Tips for a Safe, Healthy Cookout

Household Tips
Pour a packet of lemonade Kool-Aid (the only flavor that works) into the detergent cup and run the dishwasher while empty. The citric acid in the mix wipes out stains! And it smells lemon fresh!

Eliminate ear mites. All it takes is a few drops of Wesson Corn Oil in your cat's ear... massage it in, then clean with a cotton ball. Repeat daily for 3 days. The oil soothes the cat's skin, smothers the mites, and accelerates healing.

Easy eyeglass protection... to prevent the screws in eyeglasses from loosening, apply a small drop of Maybelline Crystal Clear Nail Polish to the threads of the screws before tightening them.

Smart splinter remover: Just pour a drop of Elmer's Glue-All over the splinter, let dry, and peel the dried glue off the skin. The splinter sticks to the dried glue.

Before you head to the drugstore for a high-priced inhaler filled with mysterious chemicals, try chewing on a couple of curiously strong Altoids peppermints. They'll clear up your stuffed nose.

Drinking two glasses of Gatorade can relieve headache pain almost immediately-without the unpleasant side effects caused by traditional pain relievers?

Rainy day cure for dog odor: Next time your dog comes in from the rain, simply wipe down the animal with Bounce or any dryer sheet, instantly making your dog smell springtime fresh.

Kills fleas instantly... Dawn Dishwashing Liquid does the trick. Add a few drops to your dog's bath and shampoo the animal thoroughly. Rinse well to avoid skin irritations. Good-bye fleas.

Did you know that Colgate Toothpaste makes an excellent salve for burns?

Use leftover eggshells to shine your glassware. Simply drop some crushed shells in vase, add warm water and a drop of dishwashing liquid, and give it a good swirl

A simple spruce up for the microwave: place a bowl of water mixed with lemon juice inside and run the machine on high for one minute, wipe out to clean.

Use Your Rice Cooker to Steam Towels.

Slather your hands with lotion, then wrap them in the steamed towels until cool.

Here are the five most common early warning signs of a heart attack:
-- Chest pain.
-- Pain or discomfort in the neck and jaw.
-- Pain or discomfort in the arm, shoulder or back.
-- Sudden feeling of profound fatigue.
-- Sudden shortness of breath.

UNITED BLOOD SERVICES ANNOUNCES
ARIZONA'S LARGEST BLOOD DRIVE TO SAVE LIVES

July 2 "Save Our Summer" Event at US Airways Center Promises Family Fun, Prizes
United Blood Services is asking Valley residents to declare independence from blood shortages by donating at the 3rd Annual "Save Our Summer" event on July 2.  The Arizona Diamondbacks, frontdoors lifestyle news, Kiwanis International, Phoenix Children¹s Hospital, Telemundo TV-39, the Phoenix Suns and Valley Saturn retailers have all teamed up with United Blood Services to host Arizona's largest blood drive during the Independence Day holiday week.  More than 500 people are expected to roll up their sleeves at US Airways Center next week in support of Arizona hospital patients.  Special surprises are planned for the "Save Our Summer" event, all to make sure that Arizona patients have the blood transfusions they need this summer.  For more information, call 1-877-448-GIVE (4483) toll free, or visit www.UnitedBloodServicesAZ.org
S       A July 2 donor will be drawn as 1 of 8 finalists to win a new 2008 Saturn of their choice!
S       The first 500 donors will receive a voucher for a free ticket to an Arizona Diamondbacks game!
S       A commemorative t-shirt and goodie bag for all donors!
S       Fun for the entire family: the Verizon Wireless Gorilla Jungle will be open for kids to play while parents donate!
According to Audrey Gietzen, Executive Director for United Blood Services/Arizona, the Independence Day holiday week is the most difficult time of the summer to ensure hospital patients across the state receive the blood transfusions they need.  "While donor vacations reduce the number of people giving blood, heavy traffic on the roads and highways increases the potential for accidents and the need for blood," said Gietzen.  "Every 15 minutes, eight blood donors are needed to support the needs of Arizona hospital patients."
Give blood.  Be a hero.  Help United Blood Services declare independence from blood shortages this holiday!

Pausing & Remembering a Bad Time in Arizona Journalism History
by Ed Sharpe
Glendale Daily Planet Publisher Ed Sharpe pauses and contemplates the passing of Arizona Republic reporter Don Bolles, who was attacked by a car bomb in the hotel¹s parking lot 32 years ago this month (1976) and later died of his injuries.
The  Hotel Clarendon in midtown Phoenix, where the event took place, has an interesting historical display on Don Bolles and is well worth visiting. Sharpe was attending a meeting of Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ), who along with other Valley journalism organizations, gathered to make a toast to UNITY 2008 Journalism conference  happening in Chicago and paid tribute to Bolle's memory.

The Longhorn Saloon and Grill Grand Opening
What were you doing on Friday night May 30th? If you were not at the Longhorn Saloon and Grill, then whatever you were doing you were doing it in the wrong place. The Longhorn Saloon and Grill is the new "In" place in the West Valley. It is family owned and operated with five star roots that reach into some of the best New York restaurants. Maybe even one or two highlighted in the long running television series and just released movie.

Chef Charles Steppe and his brother Chris opened their restaurant the first part of this year but on the 30th they held a ribbon cutting to celebrate their becoming members of the Surprise Regional Chamber of Commerce one of the fasts growing chambers in the West Valley. Chris and Charles and their mother Nancy Tuatagaloa welcomed David Lewis President/CEO of the Surprise Chamber along with a large number of Chamber members, and Youngtown Mayor Michael LeVault and Councilmember Dorena Mello and several other Councilmembers to the Longhorn. Three generations of the family Chris, Nancy and Shay (the chef's daughter) took part in the ribbon cutting. Charles was busy in the kitchen preparing the feast for their guests. Included in this were hamburger and pulled pork sliders, fried mushrooms, chicken croquettes, pigs-in-a-blank, stuffed pasta and fruit, all in large quantities, no one left hungry. If you missed the events of the 30th including Emil Flaim the pianist/singer who entertained everyone throughout the evening, you can enjoy the Longhorn for lunch and dinner throughout the week in their sports bar, lounge or dinning room.

The Longhorn Saloon and Grill is located at 13232 N. 111th Ave., just South of Grand in Youngtown. For all who have no idea of where Youngtown is, the town of just over 6,000 is located on the Agua Fria River in the West Valley, South of Grand Ave., and just West of Sun City. Nearby attractions include the Bradshaw Mountains, Lake Pleasant Regional Park and the University of Phoenix Stadium. Youngtown still enjoys the tranquil, small town feel while providing residents with five parks, its own police force, a library, clubhouse, a lake, beautiful sunsets and wildlife. The town is a vibrant mix of young singles, families, professionals, blue collar and retirees, and is close to all the great shopping, entertainment, art and work locations in the West Valley. The next time your looking for a great meal in a relaxed atmosphere just head over to the Longhorn Saloon and Grill, it's worth the gas. If you would like information on their live entertainment, specials or just need directions call 623-933-6023.

On the left in the cowboy hat is the well known Arizona Dude who partook in the celebration at the invitation of Panorama Hills Monthly. On the right in the suite is David Lewis President/CEO of the Surprise Chamber. And in the center cutting the ribbon is Nancy with her son Chris and her granddaughter Shay.

Geoglyphs in Desert Hills

 By LeeAnn Sharpe
Pete Norris is a man on a mission. His mission is to document and save ancient geoglyphs in the desert along Carefree Highway that are in the path of future development.

Geoglyphs are drawings made by ancient peoples on the ground, in this case using various size and types of rocks to form a pattern and tell a story.

Norris is an expert at crytanalysis, or the art of breaking codes. He believes that the geoglyphs he found in north Phoenix depict a known astronomical event some 4,000 years ago. The pattern and number of rocks clearly describe, to the trained eye, where the event happened and for how long. It tells of a meteor event, the number of meteor showers and the direction they crossed the ancient skies. The event is known to astronomers and has been recorded elsewhere in history on pottery and wall art and is documented to have occurred in 3,200B.C. "The sequences and the counts line up with this meteor event," he said.

The only question is whether these geoglyphs are as ancient as the event itself or a retelling of the story by more recent inhabitants of the area.  Story Continues with Pictures

Letter from the President at MS Corner
Hello to one and all, for this letter is not only for the readers of MS Corner, but also for our entire group.

As I was reading through a monthly publication of some sort, I came upon some weight loss ideas for those of us who have put on too much weight over the summer, or simply because we’re just too weak to say no to eating unhealthy foods. Story Continues
