LEO GORDON

He was one of those perennial bad guys with piercing eyes, big body and an intimidating delivery. His name was Leo Gordon[1]. The last time we saw each other was in Father Murphy , an offshoot of Little House on The Prairie . He was a bad guy who wrestled Merlin Olsen[2]. We rode back in a car together after the wrestling match. He was wiped out! Leo said, “That guy (Merlin) is so strong he threw me around like I was nothin’”

This was in sharp contrast to the fight scene I had with Leo where I was ingloriously pushed around. He and I were shooting a show up in Prescott. He was not a bully, just a rugged guy.

He was the guy in “McClintock who irritated John Wayne[3] with his “whining” and Wayne said, “No, I’m not gonna hit you… like Hell I’m not!” Then he proceeded to sock him and Leo went rolling down a hill.

In our simulated fight scene I actually caught Leo upside his nose before he “blew me away with a shotgun”! After the scene was over Leo came over and told me I shouldn’t have hit him in the nose. He gave me a blow in the stomach. From then on I always pulled my punches.
