APRIL ANN (PERSEL) KING
Born: 06-29-1978, in Riverside, California.
Died: 10-29-2005, from an auto accident, at 27 years of age, in Peoria,
Arizona. April Ann King, 27 years old of Peoria, Arizona was called home
on Saturday, October 29, 2005. Still here and missing her are her
husband Brian King (MHS; 1995), her four legged daughters Tawny and
Ebony, Father Charles Persel, Sr, Mother Sheryl Allen and stepfather,
brother Charles Persel, Jr. (MHS; 1995) and wife, brother PJ, US Navy,
sister Dawn Pennington of El Paso, Texas and husband, In-laws Kenneth
and Joan King, sister-in-law Lindsay King, MHS; 1998. Maternal
grandparents, 2 nieces, 2 nephews, several aunts, uncles and cousins.
April was born in Riverside, California. She grew up in Arizona from the
age of three. Her family grew in 1982 when she got a big sister and
younger brother. She attended Maryvale High School where she met her
husband and graduated with honors in 1996. Brian King, MHS; 1995 and
April were married in 2001. She was able to take her dream vacation this
last August to Paris, France with some of her many friends. April had
just gotten her real estate license and was embarking on a new career.
April will be greatly missed. She loved all and all loved her. To be
absent from the body is to be with the Lord. A private memorial service
was held Monday, 11/07/2005, at Heritage Funeral Chapel, 6830 West
Thunderbird Road, Peoria, Arizona. In Lieu of flowers, donations can be
made at Bank of America in April's name, account # 38988883; the family
plans to donate the money in King's name to breast cancer research.
"April was a loving, free spirit," said her stepmother Sheryl Garcia,
who cared for April since she was 3 years old. "She was opinionated. She
knew what she liked and what she didn't like, but she usually kept her
opinion to herself except when it mattered." April went out of her way
to help those in need. When her stepmother recently suffered a heart
attack, April rarely left her bedside. "Anybody who knew her had to love
her." Both April and her stepmother Sheryl were baptized together on
Mother's Day in 1992 and shared a spiritual bond. "That was a very
important, significant part of our lives." April and her brother,
stepbrother and stepsister were inseparable as children and remained
close as adults. April's stepmother Sheryl Garcia-Allen, and her Father
Charles Persel divorced in 1996, but Garcia-Allen stayed in contact with
April, who she called her daughter. April always call Sheryl Mom. April
began dating her future husband when she was 14. The two stayed together
through high school, bought a house together in Peoria and eventually
married about four years ago. Brian and April were high school
sweethearts. April recently received her real estate license after
working for a law firm and medical facility as a data-entry clerk.
Glendale police said William Reagan Jr., 25, of Peoria, ran a red light
in his Honda Accord and broadsided King's Volkswagen Jetta. April's
death occurred when she drove into the path of what police call a
road-rage incident at 75th Avenue and Bethany Home Road. April's passing
is devastating and overwhelming. "Her life was taken in such a tragic
way and it's not fair and it's a tremendous loss, but I know April well
enough that she would want us to pick up the pieces and continue on."
