New Local Survey Reveals “50 Things I Wish I Knew When I was 25”
Baby Boomers warn Millennials -
You’re Replaceable at Work, Marry
for Love-not Money and Wear Sunscreen!
SCOTTSDALE, ARIZ. (October 15, 2014)
- In a fun local survey, Baby Boomers warn
Millennials about everything they wish they knew when they were
25 years old – from relationships to careers to money. The
survey was conducted by Blimpie® (www.Blimpie.com),
America’s favorite sub shop, that’s celebrating its 50th
birthday this year. Local men and women ages 50 and older were
asked to share their words of wisdom with younger generations.
It’s all part of a yearlong 50th birthday celebration that
kicked off on Blimpie’s birthday, April 4th, 2014.
They’ve kept the party rocking over the summer, too, by
celebrating their customers and their New Jersey roots. On
June 29th, Blimpie wrapped up their Golden Giveaway sweepstakes
which awarded one lucky winner a paradise vacation for two to
Hawaii - America’s 50th state. And in August, Blimpie
introduced the Hoboken Hero, a savory new Italian sub filled
with pepperoni, salami, proscuittini and provolone made the
BLIMPIE WAY with tomatoes, lettuce, onion, vinegar, oil and
oregano to celebrate the brand’s New Jersey roots until the
limited time offer expired on October 5, 2014.
According to Steve Evans, Blimpie’s Vice President of
Marketing, this survey allowed customers to engage with the
brand on its 50th birthday and pass along important words of
wisdom to the next generation. “It takes a lot for a sub chain
like Blimpie to stay successful for 50 years,” says Evans. “We
wanted to hear advice from people 50 and older to pass onto
younger generations, so they could succeed just like Blimpie has
as America’s favorite sub shop.”
Here is what the Baby Boomers had to say to the
Millennials:
50 Things I Wish I Knew When I was 25
(Advice from Baby Boomers to Millennials)

a problem

Know technology – you need it for your job
There is no such thing as job security

Money
Always learn to support yourself
Save for a rainy day; it may pour when you least expect it
Spend money on experiences – not things
Just because your friends are wasting their money doesn’t mean
you have to – invest!
You will not win the lottery
Style
Models look that way in magazines because they’re models. And
because they’re airbrushed
Wear a watch
Crocs don’t look good on anybody
Big hats only look good on royalty – like Princess Kate
Be a fashion DON’T
Health
Wear sunscreen – it’s the one thing that really does help you
look young
Try outdoor activities – they won’t feel like exercise, and
you’ll still burn calories
Hit the gym before the fridge
Smoking … seriously?
Eat your cheese fries now – they’re harder to get rid of later.
Friends
Good friends lift you up; toxic friends bring you down
It’s okay if your significant other is your best friend
Ending a friendship is never easy, but sometimes it’s necessary
Work at keeping your friends; making new ones is hard when
you’re older
A good friend will give you bad news … and a pint of Cold Stone
Creamery ice cream to soothe the blow
Family
Cherish every moment you have with your mom and dad
If you don’t trust your instincts, trust your mom’s
Call your grandparents more
You will become your parents
It’s okay not to have children
Media
Read more books instead of Tweets

There is nothing real about ‘reality’ shows
Real books will still be there when your cell phone or tablet
battery dies
Write a real letter, in your own handwriting, so you don’t
forget how
Words of Wisdom
It’s ok to change your mind
Work hard for everything, no one owes you anything
What annoys you now, will still annoy you later
Know when to speak up and to shut up
You can’t always get what you want
Goals & Aspirations
You can still have fun when you’re an adult
Growing old is inevitable. Growing up is not
Give to charity; don’t become a charity case
Your big idea CAN become a reality
Use all your vacation time
