Mayo
Clinic on Aspirin - Dr. Virend Somers is
a Cardiologist from the Mayo Clinic who
is the lead author of the report in the
July 29, 2008 issue of the Journal of
the American College of Cardiology. Most
heart attacks occur in the day,
generally between 6 A.M. and noon.
Having one during the night, When the
heart should be most at rest, means that
something unusual happened. Somers and
his colleagues have been working for a
decade to show that sleep apnea is to
blame.
1.
If you take an aspirin or a baby aspirin
once a day, take it at night. The
Reason: Aspirin has a 24-hour
"half-life"; therefore, if most heart
attacks happen in the wee hours of the
morning, the Aspirin would be strongest
in your system.
2. Aspirin
lasts a really long time in your
medicine chest; for years. (when it gets
old, it smells like vinegar).
Something
that we can do to help ourselves: Bayer
is making crystal aspirin to dissolve
instantly on the tongue. They work much
faster than the tablets. Why keep
Aspirin by your bedside? It's about
Heart Attacks - There are other symptoms
of a heart attack besides the pain in
the left arm. One must also be aware of
an intense pain on the chin, as well as
nausea and lots of sweating; however,
these symptoms may also occur less
frequently.
Note:
There may be NO pain in the chest
during a heart attack. The majority of
people (about 60%) who had a heart
attack during their sleep did not wake
up. However, if it occurs, the chest
pain may wake you up from your deep
sleep. If that happens, immediately
dissolve two aspirins in your mouth and
swallow them with a bit of water.
Afterwards - Call 911. Phone a neighbor
or a family member who lives very close
by. Say "heart attack!" - Say that you
have taken 2 Aspirins. - Take a seat on
a chair or sofa near the front door, and
wait for their arrival and ........

the Dermal Epidermal Junction’s (DEJ)
critical role to the skin’s function.
As
we age, skin begins to sag due to the
degradation of skin’s underlying support
and subsequent weakened cohesion between
skin’s layers. A vital component of
skin’s underlying support structure is
the DEJ, which is located between the
epidermis and dermis, and serves as the
gateway between these two layers of the
skin. Its complex structure is a fine,

Concierge supports all patient
transportation and service needs for
pre-operation as well as post-operation.
In addition, all drivers are extensively
background checks providing a safe

As part of the
PostOp Concierge service, the Home Safe

Dr. Frindrich
first conceptualized PostOp Concierge
when he noticed cases were being
canceled frequently due to not having a
ride or not adhering to pre-surgical
instructions of not eating or drinking
for up to six hours before the
case. Most importantly, the patient who
has taken time out of their schedule to
arrange for the needed surgery was not
getting the care in a timely
manner. This caused interruption in the
scheduling at the surgery center which
causes an economic chain of events. The
surgeon, anesthesiologist, and centers
were losing funds and incurring costs as
a case was cancelled. In addition,
patients from a dual income family,
singles, and those with distant family
members can benefit as it is a decreased
barrier to getting a procedure done.

deliver them to the surgical procedure
as well as back home. According to
Dr. Frindrich, the minimum time needed
to take a patient to a procedure is two
hours in advance, perform the case,
recover, and take a patient home.

explained that patients and family

registered for a procedure, performing
the procedure, recovering the patient,
and discharging the patient in a timely
manner all affect the efficiency of the
surgical center. When patients
show up late, cancel because of non
adherence to NPO status, or a ride from
surgery shows up late, every other case
booked at the facility gets affected.
The delayed post op ride means a
recovery room nurse and space is
potentially not available to take
another patient who is ready to leave
the operating room." With PostOp

minutes of notification that the patient

Ericson spent
four years conceptualizing the concept
of RubyRide. An architect by training,

Two international clinical
research studies evaluating a new
investigational antibiotic treatment (Pulmaquin®)
for bronchiectasis
A severe lung disease in need of new and
improved treatment options
Pulmonologists from
major medical centers across the world
are recruiting patients with non-cystic
fibrosis bronchiectasis (BE) to
participate in two clinical trials with
Pulmaquin.
Patients with BE who have chronic
respiratory infections with the
microorganism Pseudomonas aeruginosa
have a severe form of the disease that
can lead to poor quality of life and
untimely death. BE is a condition
characterized by abnormal dilatation of
the airways, often associated with
chronic infection. The patient's lung
function is often irreversibly reduced
compared to that found in healthy
individuals.
BE is frequently observed in patients
with cystic fibrosis (CF). However, it
is a condition that affects over 100,000
people without CF in the United States.
Many of these patients are non-smokers
and the origin of their BE is unknown.
Two international clinical research
studies are underway to evaluate the
safety and effectiveness of Pulmaquin®,
an investigational drug that is inhaled
once daily. The trials compare Pulmaquin
to placebo in the management of chronic
lung infections with P. aeruginosa in
patients with non-cystic fibrosis BE.
Investigators will evaluate this by
determining how long it takes for
participants to experience their first
pulmonary exacerbation. A pulmonary
exacerbation is the new appearance or
worsening of respiratory signs and
symptoms such as cough, wheezing, chest
congestion or shortness of breath,
fever, or fatigue. Other important
clinical endpoints, including the
patients' quality of life will also be
evaluated.
These clinical research trials will be
enrolling over 500 subjects over the age
of 18. Enrolled subjects will visit the
study center monthly for approximately 1
year with two thirds of the subjects
taking Pulmaquin and one third placebo.
Participants who complete this phase of
their study will then participate in a
4-week extension in which all subjects
will be given the investigational drug
Pulmaquin®.
Study centers are seeking individuals to
participate in these clinical trials.

Atlanta, Ga. - November 28, 2011 - A
slight majority of Americans think
doctors write too many prescriptions for
drugs to give to their patients.
In a Poll Position national telephone
survey, 52% said there are too many
prescriptions written for drugs by
doctors, 25% did not think so and 23%
had no opinion.
Fifty-nine percent of African-Americans
thought doctors give too many
prescription drugs to their patients,
24% did not think so and 18% had no
opinion.
Among whites, 53% thought too many
prescription drugs are given to
patients, 26% did not think so and 21%
had no opinion.
Men thought too man prescription drugs
were given out by 53% versus 20% who did
not think so and 26% had no opinion.
Women countered with 51% saying too many
prescriptions are written for drugs, 29%
did not think so and 20% did not have an
opinion.

Alzheimers
Day
As a
Caregiver I deal with Alzheimer
everyday.
There
are 7 stages of Alzheimer disease and my
Mom is at stage 5 to 6. That is the
point where she can't recognize us and
can't recall what you said to her one
minute ago. She needs constant
attention. Every afternoon at about 4pm
she experiences what they call
"sundowners syndrome" where she tries to
leave. She wants to go home, but doesn't
know where home is.
